Leaving Casa Helbling in Quito on Saturday night. Had a grand send off by Claus and Hector….

I arrived Portland Oregon at around Noon on Sunday. I had planned the trip to allow me to attend and volunteer at an Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Conference. It was great to see many friends that I have made while taking care of my wife. I was on the Board of Directors for the State of Oregon Chapter and really involved before I left on my motorcycle RTW adventure.

One of the reasons that I returned was because the two keynote presenters are people that I now and respect. One is Maria Carillo who is the Alzheimer’s Association Research director for the National Organization. And Lisa Genova who is a Neuroscientist and author of the Book “Still Alice” and Left Neglected was also speaking. We became friends after I read her book Still Alice, and it was good to spend a bit of time talking to Lisa.

Here is Lisa during her presentation. She was great !!

Then Me with Lisa Genova the Best Selling author of Still Alice. This photo is for Young James. As I have gone from Scruffy Biker to guy in a suit.

I volunteered to help during the conference…. Which I did and also got asked at the last minute to participate in an Early Onset presentation…… In front of 100+ people It went well…. but wish I would have had a bit more notice.

Posted on Facebook about the conference and a friend gave this reply.

So I jumped right back into life here. Also got an invite to go to the Paul Allen Brain Institute in Seattle tomorrow for an Alzheimer’s Event. “road trip”… too bad my GS needs a new A frame….and I do not have time to do it tomorrow and get up to Seattle. Will be caging it!
